Brain Tumor and Complex Spinal Surgery Operations Starts at Malatya Turgut Özal University Training and Research Hospital


Academicians working at the Ministry of Health Malatya Turgut Özal University Training and Research Hospital continue medical and surgical interventions in their own branches. Malatya Turgut Özal University (MTU) Faculty of Medicine Brain and Nerve Surgery faculty members Dr. Lecturer Abdullah Emre Taçyıldız, Dr. Lecturer GökhanGökçe and Operating Dr. ErayTekirdaş, successfully removed the tumor in the brain of a 50-year-old female patient, approximately 7x5x6 cm in size, and restored the patient to health.

Stating that they continue to work to strengthen the health services in Malatya Training and Research Hospital, Rector Prof. Dr. Aysun Mr. Karabulut mentioned “As MTU Faculty of Medicine, we strive to increase diversity and efficiency in health services with our strong and well-equipped academic staff. We add value to health services in our province, especially with Brain and Nerve Surgery, Cardiovascular Surgery, Gynecology and IVF Center, Pediatrics and Newborn Intensive Care Services, Cardiology and Invasive Cardiology Unit, Traditional and Complementary Medicine Center. These important operations carried out by our academics also set an example for our students, and in this sense, we train our students as well-equipped physicians”

Stating that they successfully removed the 7x5x6 cm tumor as a result of a 4-hour operation, MTU Faculty of Medicine Department of Neurosurgery Lecturer Dr. GökhanGökçe said “As the Brain and Nerve Surgery clinic, we want to perform surgeries such as brain tumors and complex spinal surgerywithin the hospitaltogether with the newly joined faculty members and without referral to another institution, which we could not do in our hospital before.We want to reach the level where we can perform other surgeries by establishing specialized sub-centers recently. In this sense, we have concentrated all our energy and planning for this purpose.” by also mentioning they plan to increase the variety and quality of service in many branches with the decrease of the effect of the pandemic.
