An online conversation program on "We Haven't Forgotten We Will Not Forget" was organized by Malatya Turgut Özal University (MTU) on the occasion of 15 July Democracy and National Unity Day.
The talk program on "We Haven't Forgotten We Will Not Forget", which was held on the Malatya Turgut Özal University Distance Education Application and Research Center (MTU-UZEM) system, started with the July 15 special video prepared by the university
Opening the program on "We Have Not Forgotten We Will Not Forget", Rector Prof. Dr. Aysun Bay Karabulut started her speech by commemorating the heroic martyrs who gave their lives for the sake of the country with mercy and gratitude to the veterans on the anniversary of July 15, “July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day; It is the victory day of our nation's attempt to invade after the liberation struggle and a second struggle to destroy our homeland. On July 15, as a country and as a nation, we faced the biggest and most despicable betrayal of our history. With the betrayal of the international powers FETÖ/PDY terrorist organization network, an operation to destroy our state was carried out. However, the night of July 15, the day wanted to be the darkest, was the most important day for our democracy history with the sacrifice of our nation that defies tanks and planes.
“On July 15, the indivisible integrity of the homeland was also defended.”
Rector Prof. Dr. Karabulut said, “Our nation, with its courage and struggle, once again reminded the spirit of Çanakkale to the international powers and their treacherous collaborators who carry out their tutelage. For this reason, we must protect the spirit of July 15, we must not forget and we must not let it be forgotten. If the treacherous coup attempt on July 15 had been successful, perhaps we would not have been able to show these successes and show national unity today. Our nation defended not only democracy but also the indivisible integrity of the homeland against the tutelage forces during the treacherous coup attempt on July 15. We have to be very careful not to experience the same betrayals.”
“We will serve our students, they will grow up as young people who serve their country.”
Referring to the words expressed by a student at the graduation ceremony held in the past days, Prof. Dr. Karabulut told about her emotional moments, “In 3 years, very important progress has been made. At our graduation ceremony, which we held 2 days ago, the joy of our students and parents, the sparkle in their eyes, and their eagerness to serve their country and country show us how right we are doing. One of our students used the following words and made me very proud: “Thank you very much for giving us this opportunity and preparing us for life. I will always pay this debt to our state by working and producing, I will serve my state like you…” Yes, this sentence was very meaningful to me.
We will serve our students, they will grow up as young people who serve their homeland…”
Rector Prof. Dr. Karabulut expressed her gratitude to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, YÖK President Yekta Saraç and those who contributed to the establishment and support of the university, “Once again, I would like to thank President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, YÖK President Yekta Saraç, YÖK Members and everyone who contributed. Our nation, which stands firm against betrayals and traitors, and defends this homeland, flag and prayer to death, will continue to keep this spirit alive today and tomorrow as it did yesterday.”
Rector Karabulut said, "I commemorate all our martyrs with mercy and gratitude, and our hero veterans with gratitude, together with our martyrs who willingly sacrificed their lives for the country and the nation, without blinking their eyes in the victory of the July 15 Democracy Victory."
MTU Instructor Dr.Gül Seda Acet İnce, in her presentations on the July 15 Coup Attempt and What Happened, said, “There have been many coups in our Turkish political history, and each time it took a long time for the country to recover and reach its former level. However, what happened on July 15, 2016 was much more different and striking than the previous ones.”
Acet İnce said, “The July 15 coup attempt has taken its place in the pages of history as an unsuccessful coup attempt by FETO members who call themselves the “Peace at Home Council” in the Turkish Armed Forces on the night of July 15, 2016. Unlike the others, it is defined as "glorious resistance" and is referred to as one of the important developments in the glorious Turkish history. This call was the most important development that enabled that darkest night to reach the light. The July 15 coup attempt was averted thanks to the Turkish people's taking to the squares as a result of the call of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. As the night began to light up within hours, our nation succeeded in thwarting this attempt. The trauma and shock caused by the coup attempt has not completely passed yet. It has been 5 years since the treacherous coup attempt, but what happened in the dark night where 251 citizens were martyred and 2196 citizens became veterans remains fresh in the memories.”
“No harm to my homeland”
Battalgazi Vocational School Lecturer Cumali Aydoğan started his speech by saying “Don't forget and don't make them forget” and said, “On July 15, 2016, this state and this beloved nation experienced a great betrayal. So what is betrayal? It is all kinds of treachery to the land you live in, to the flag in which you find peace, to the state that surrounds and raises you. There is a history of coups in Turkey. In our country, we are faced with a coup every 10 years on average. In the history of the Republic, coups began in 1960 and the last coup attempt took place on 15 July. Strange but true: The feet that marched in the previous coups, the hands that applauded the putschists of July 15th, the organs of the same body, on the night of July 15th, people are mobilizing to claim their homeland. People have no fear, no worries. Ablutions are taken, martyrdom prayers are performed, they say to give their rights to the children and leave the houses. I don't care if I die, it is said that my country should not be harmed. The treacherous quota of this country has always been high. He said, "We will die if necessary, but we will not allow our country to be killed." Those who love their homeland and nation set out for their flag and call to prayer.”
“The necessary response was given to the putschists as one heart, hand in hand.”
MTU Lecturer Nurşen Yıldırım said, “July 15 is such a struggle; It took its place in history as a holy victory won by giving 251 martyrs. Those who carried out this treacherous attempt that night saw how our nation suppressed it with their courage and will. At this point, I commemorate our martyrs who gave their lives for the sake of the country with mercy, and our July 15 veterans with gratitude.”
Yıldırım said, “Our people, who came together during the democracy watch, gave the necessary answer to the putschists as one heart, united and hand in hand. A great epic was written that night with the manifestation of national feelings. And the determined attitude of the people against the coup attempt almost changed the course of history. As our esteemed President stated: “Sometimes a single hero changes the destiny of a whole nation. On July 15, millions of heroes appeared all over our country and left their mark on the future of the whole nation with them.” This country is the country of good days and bright tomorrows. It will never surrender to putschist mentalities.”
